FM Pain is Magnification Generated by ‘Hyper-Linked’ Parts of Brain

Real-time observation of interplay among brain networks confirms elevated connectivity in the central nervous system of FM patients, and that this is linked to spontaneous pain perception & severity. Measures may lead to markers of disease progression if not ways to intercept or mute the pain.

A recent study from researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital and University of Michigan provides the first direct evidence of linkage between elevated intrinsic (resting-state) brain connectivity and spontaneous pain intensity in patients with fibromyalgia (FM).
